Building for a startup, we engineered a high-precision GPS tracking engine that runs in the background with minimal battery drain. The platform includes a complex gamification engine that rewards pet owners for consistent activity, successfully building a community of 100k active users.
The Core Business Challenges
High-precision GPS tracking on mobile devices typically drains battery within hours. The client also needed to build a highly engaging platform to ensure users wouldn’t abandon the tracker after a few weeks of use.
Our Engineering Approach
We built a customized GPS tracking manager inside Flutter that utilizes smart geofencing and throttle ping intervals based on user velocity. To drive retention, we integrated WebSockets for real-time community sharing and constructed a gamified badge and target system.
